Right now I'm a registered Republican. I did so just to vote for Ron Paul. Will I be trapped in the GOP after the primaries? Or will I be able to switch back to Libertarian? I don't want to stick with a big government, pro-war party I had decided that principle overrides party when I switched for Ron Paul, but I don't plan on becoming active in a party that advocates for illegal war crimes all over the world, so I do plan to return to affiliation in the LP.

I want to just vote for Ron Paul to give the Republican establishment a slap in the face. It's too bad NJ doesn't have an open primary. I thought about running for office as a GOP, but why run in a party that would boo me off the stage for saying we need to come home from Iraq? It's like running as a Democrat and saying you want to cut some government programs on stage lol. You're going to hear some boos, because the party isn't for you.

You can switch at any time. You may however want to wait until after the June primary. Murray Sabrin is running on a Ron Paul platform and there may be other's running as well.

Some in the LP are upset (perhaps rightfully?) that so many people switched to republican after we fought so hard for the right to register as a Libertarian. But in truth registering as a Libertarian doesn't really do anything more than give us bragging rights.

Perhaps the NJLP should consider making anyone who is registered as a Libertarian an automatic member with NJLP voting rights? The downside is that it would be a pain to verify everyone's registration prior to our convention/state meetings and our budget may be impacted.

I'm not sure about that proposal. You're saying that the NJLP should do away with dues? hmm. Well, I guess you could just limit it to donations, but I'm pretty sure the budget will take a hit for that. There are advantages and disadvantages; maybe more members, but less money. How does the GOP do it? Do they charge dues?

Maybe take a survey to see what LP members think of it. Will they donate more than their dues? I don't know.

I would like to stick with the LP. Are we going to lose our ballot access?? I think we need to draw the line somewhere or else the Party will go under as we wait to vote for new "Ron Paul Republicans." I would really love to see the LP become a MAJOR party. Imagine that.

As I've stated earlier, the message is not the problem with the LP. I believe the LP has the best message. The problem is that most people don't even know about the LP. So shouldn't we divert more resources on getting people signed up? If we have like 122 LP voters in a district, how can we expect to win? You're betting against basic math. 122 voters with 100% turnout wouldn't be able to win on our opponent's worst turnout. That's the problem. If we get the signups, we can get the votes. I have seen Democratic activists canvass my last town to get people registered to vote, they weren't telling people who to vote for.

I think this is something we should do.

I looked over the njgop. They don't seem to charge any dues, they go on volunteers. This could be more beneficial... maybe fundraiser drives? Straw polls? etc. These things could bring in money, but I still don't know. I'm no expert at this stuff.

I can't figure out the does & don'ts of accessing replies so perhaps my comments are dated, but what the heck: Just because we as a party have not utilized the registration process does not mean it's meaningless or only gives us bragging rights. If nothing else, like election day vote totals, it's a measure of our viability as a party when we go to court asking for equal rights with the GOP & Dems. If asking someone to switch their party registration is asking too much, our cause is doomed. It's not like we're asking a guy to take a bullet or even a whack on the head.
