One good thing that Ron Paul has accomplished is opening many citizen's eyes to the idea that the size and scope of the government really could be reduced. I've heard a lot of people say they were only turned off of Dr. Paul when he would go on rants about the Federal Reserve and other topics that most voters just have no comprehension (or even awareness) of. One thing we all have to keep in mind is that before we ever get a libertarian President, we have to grow the party nationally and exponentially. Any publicity is good publicity at this point.
