Consider the quotation:
"No man is entitled to the fruits of another man's labor"

Most people would immediately embrace this concept as true, noble and right. It is a beautifully composed statement of property rights. When, however, the statement is used to ill-legitimize the redistribution of wealth, the "political party people" reevaluate it, nuance it, and contort it, in an effort to change its meaning while at the same time allowing it to retain its noble luster.

The statement is what it is. It is an absolute assertion that, and it seems redundant and almost silly to say this, "You are the owner of your property". If its your property, who else can own it? Yet, the dominant political parties have based and built their entire political philosophy on the paradoxical position that "You do not own your property". It is a sad truth that unvirtuous citizens will close their eyes to facts, reality, reason and justice, and form a despicable alliance with a contemptible democratic government for the sole purpose of voting themselves enrichment from the fruits of another man's labor.

Libertarians are the only party that can live with the statement "No man is entitled to the fruits of another man's labor" and I believe the "folks" in general (not the party people) would embrace this philosophy. It is a very powerful statement that permeates almost every aspect of politics. It would give us great advantage over the major parties if there were a way of bringing this quote into the open and public political arena for consideration and debate. What do you think?

This is a point I try to make as often as possible, usually when talking about property taxes. I like to point out that no one owns land, they only rent from the government. If you think otherwise, stop paying your "rent" (taxes) and see how long it takes for you to get evicted (if not jailed). No one has managed to come back to that one yet.

Kevin, what an interesting observation. Land is “rented” from the government. You are spot on. I would further observe that the government more and more sees us as sharecroppers on its land. Our earnings belong not to us, but to the government. The government graciously dictates the portion of the fruits of our labor that we will be allowed to retain. Thank you Massa Government!

Exactly. It really does make mad when people get excited over a $300 rebate check. I guess they forget the $1,000s of dollars the government stole in order to give that rebate right before election time. It's not hard to figure out. No one should have to pay the government taxes on what they earn or what they produce. They made/earned that money without the help of the government, they should be able to keep all of it in order to take care of their families.
