Although New Jersey's protections against the State's exercise of eminent domain are greater than the protections the United States Supreme Court was willing to give under the U.S. Constitution, the potential for abuse is still broad. I hope the owners of the land and building that are being targeted for seizure punish the city by making OPRA requests, participating in the local government (and thereby possibly uncovering malfeasance), and, if necessary, suing to prevent an illegal seizure.
