Reformed Drug Warrior? 6 Months, 4 Weeks ago Karma: 3
This thread discusses the Content article: Reformed Drug Warrior?

He really needs to sh*t or get off the pot!

The convention is just over one month away and he is still "exploring" and "gauging"!

On the other hand he didn't too bad in the interview, despite his flip-flop.

At the PA/NJ convention, when asked what it means to be a Libertarian?" Dan Imperato was completely serious when he answered (paraphrasing), "To me, it means you paid $15 and joined."

I have to think that the two latest candidates, Barr and Gravel, won't know why I find Imperato's answer humorous, nor why I lump those three candidates into the same category.

If the LP wants to usurp the rEVOLution, they will need to understand that it is the message about individual rights, and less so state's rights, that moves us.

Bob Barr is not a good choice for a message bearer, especially when there are several other libertarian messengers in the race that abhor the initiation of force as a means of achieving social or political goals at both the federal and state level.

I share the two Jays' lack of enthusiasm for Congressman Barr as the LP Presidential candidate. I wonder if he is truly "reformed" since his views on drug prohibition do not appear libertarian at all. Hannity asked if a state wanted to legalize cocaine if Barr would block it. It seems Barr's impulse would be to maintain any ban.

I think he answered correctly. It is obvious that proclaiming you will legalize crack and heroin is not going to win you many votes. De-criminalizing it is another thing entirely. Making all drug offenses misdeamors with only a fine and no possiblility of jail time would be a step in the right direction. I would like to see a candidate take a moderate libertarian view, which I think would be more likely to atract the most voters.
