Japan started building it's empire before 1904. You forget the Sino-Japanese war of 1894-1895. If I remember correctly that is how they got Formosa,now Taiwan. Once Meiji took the throne in the 1860's the Japanese geared themselves up to modernize and expand. Sorry, I just wished to correct your history a little. Otherwise I can't argue too much with your letter.
