The New Jersey Libertarian Party Supports Digital Privacy, Decentralization, and Ending the War on Cryptocurrency

On June 17th, 2025 the Libertarian Party of Tennessee adopted a resolution to support digital privacy, decentralization and the end to cryptocurrency persecution. The New Jersey Libertarian Party applauds their resolution and is proud to stand with them. We steadfastly uphold the fundamental right to digital privacy, and recognize it as an extension of individual liberty in the modern age. Individual rights are innate to every person and extend into all areas of their life, be it in the physical or digital spheres. We support the goal of decentralization, unfettered communication and digital privacy as a means to empower individuals, foster innovation, and reduce coercive control by centralized authorities.

To achieve a society governed by free market enterprise and individual liberties it is necessary to preserve technological innovation, including the development and use of cryptocurrencies, end-to-end encryption messaging services, and virtual private networks (VPN). The United States has always been at the epicenter of advancement and innovation, and if we wish to remain at the forefront of progress it is necessary to cease all State interference with digital affairs.

We reject the Biden administration’s policies, including Operation Chokepoint 2.0, that have targeted the cryptocurrency industry with discriminatory financial restrictions, stifling innovation and violating the principles of free enterprise. We call on President Trump to follow through with his commitment to end Chokepoint 2.0 and demand an end to other invasive programs, like the Patriot Act and the Communication Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA).

Finally, while we continue to applaud President Trump for the pardoning of Ross Ulbricht, others are still being wrongfully harmed. The prosecution of Roman Storm, Roger Ver, and others, as well as the imprisonment of Ian Freeman, represent unjust overreaches by the federal government, punishing individuals for exercising their rights to innovate and engage in consensual transactions. We call on President Trump to immediately release Ian Freeman and drop the charges against individuals engaged in cryptocurrency innovation

We understand that the rapid development of new and unexpected technologies creates a sense of unease in many, but individual rights are not mere political allowances. Our current policies are targeting non-violent individuals who are doing nothing more than participating in free exchange. We must not allow our fear and ignorance to stifle innovation and rob individuals of their freedoms. We call on the American public to demand an end to State invasion into the digital sphere and for other Libertarian State Affiliates to join the Libertarian Party of Tennessee’s resolution.

In Liberty,

The New Jersey Libertarian Party
